Japan entry 18,

Thuresday, July 22, (in Japan writing about camp)

Next night, awsome service about identity but idetitiy in Christ as a masculine or femmine person.  He had seperate alter calls for both sexes, he even had an alter call for those struggling with homosexuality.  I am a man, and I am of God.  I am a man in God.  A brother, in Christ.  A son of God.  I am humbled…

…I am going to talk about camp.  Dat 1: Service about Identity, awsome, Akward/irritating conversation about my sexual orientation as it always happnes. …

In addition to my Japan entries I am also going to respond to ideas and topics disscussed in the above book that I am currently reading.  The first of these happnes to be about ORIGINAL SIN.  This is not meant to be a offensive to Catholics or mainline Protestants just my perosanl belief on original sin of course always put in the light of Sacred Scripture.

“For God, the author of natures, not of vices, created man upright; but man, bing of his own will corrupted, and justly condemned, begot corrupted and condemned children.  For we all were in that one man, since we all were that one man who fell into sin by the woman who was made from him before the sin. To be sure, the particular forms in which we as individuals were to live had notyet been created and distributed; but already the seminal nature was there from which we were to be propagated; and since this was vitiated by sin, bound by the chain of death, and justlycondemend, man couldnot be born in any other state. -St. Augustine, The City of God (410), Book XIII

To break it down simply the theory is that because of Adam’s sin, in the garden of Eden, all people thereafter are born with sin, Origianl sin, becuase we cannot be born pure from an impure parent.  I state flat out that I regect this, first off it has little and only implicit scriptural basis.  So implicit it is not a teaching of Scripture but of tradition, a tradition that does not make reasonable sense I believe.  First off, lets list scripture that supports it.

“Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliationTherefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law.” Romans 5:11-13

First off, the whole text implies that sin remained in the world not because it was inborn to all people but becuse it countined to be countined by people.  This is not only what he text implies but is compatible with Hebrw thought.  Sin is transgressing the law whether the law is known or not.  However there is a sinful nature that all humans share because of Adam for the we cannot be born in a the nature of sinful father.  To say that this provides original sin is not reasonable becuase it means that the action of the father was inborn inot the child, sin is commited it is not inborn as seen from Scripture so this can be concluded unreasoable.  However a sinful nature can be because a sinful nature is not action but the state of man after the Fall, that is when Adam fell, so we all fell.  However we have freedom from this “law of sin and death” in Christ when become a new creation, born again, and have a nature not of sin but of Spirit.

“So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for death. But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.” Romans 7:4-6

“”Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,” -Romans 8:1-3

“So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:” 2 Corinthians 5:16-18

Edit: this has not so much to do with a certain conversation, with certian people, at a certain table in a certian school in a certian village.  They are Sarah, Keegan and Daniel as well as the other less active participents.  The fact that it is about origional sin has nothing to do with that but of the book I am reading it is all a great quincedence.  And a specific note to specific readers if they read.  Shannon I have a magazine I want to read when Ed is done with it and then I would like to loan it to Keegan if you guys are interested. would like to read the articles.

July 21 recap on past days,

…So we did not go to the castle, no time but I went to this really long bridge that is like 8 kilomoters long.  Then this traditional Japanese town.  First stop archiological musem which was 2 stores but 4 half levles.  It went from the Jomon epirod to the Kamakura/Muramachi period.  At the top there was some Peruvian artifiacts, kind of funney since I was just in Peru, no?  THen we went to a Ryokan and I had Mancha-“poison”- tea and Sancah “less worse poison” tea.  Sometimes I felt like I was back in the Meiji era with the Romantic music in the backroudn while still holding on to the traditional Japanese way [this is all in the ryokan setting].  Thats how it is here, its almost like a struggle between holding on and moving forward.  Speaking of such the next place we wakled to was the oldest Europeon art museum in Japan-started privatly.  It was nice to see art like that again, I was beginning to feel deprived.  [Not because there is not art in Japan for they are a people of the arts, or even that I was in Japan missing art because i was there just that I missed it in general].  I could not help but to think in the back left corner of my mind about howmuch I am going to miss RSA.  Was I like a mist that was there for a little while and then blown away lor will I keep in touch?  [The next entry will be me back in the bus being toed.
